The idea of retreating to a remote cabin to reconnect with nature has never been more appealing. With humble beginnings as rudimentary, functional shelters, they have evolved across the centuries to become permanent residences and boutique stays. Therefore, crafting a dining room that puts traditional cabin decor, warmth, and comfort at the heart are the key elements these years. The dark wood slats wall panelings, often associated with period homes or traditional interiors, add a sophisticated elegance that is unmatched.

Wood clad walls are synonymous with the cabin look, but when it comes to wall paneling ideas, there are many styles available to suit the age of your house and personal taste. Some incorporate a richer effect, such as hand-carved friezes and wood wrapped pilasters, others have a traditional aged and polished finish, and some, such as the Tudor linenfold, shiplap wood slats are highly decorative.

How to Create a DIY Wainscoting Look for the dining room

This project is in one of their dining rooms. The dining room started out very neutral with stark white walls, a tan and beige tiled floor, and a light wood dining room table. For a designer’s space, we found it to be a little “blah”. To spice up the space, she used 14, 4 feet x 8 feet flexible wood slats bender wall board pieces and used a stable gun or glue to secure them to the wall. One by one she stabled the first 10 flexible wood slats wall bender board pieces vertically to the wall. Next, she adds four pieces to the wall horizontally on top of the already set vertical ones. She then caulks around the seams of the flexible wood slats bender board and wall to create a more cohesive look. After that, she paints the wall and the wood slats bender board pieces. Black ensuring the wall doesn’t seep over the top of the horizontal pieces. Next, she uses wood pieces and places them over top of the horizontal bender board. This not only hides the paint line but also adds a decorative wainscoting look. She then adds a piece of art and two wall sconces for a beautiful finished look.
